October to December 2005

The year wrapped up with lots of new things to do in the new house (always more) and lots of old friends moving to our part of the UK from far away. Oh - and we had a non-wintry start to Winter.

PAUL AND VALERIA SYMONDS

Paul was a colleague of mine in Seoul from 2001 - 2002 and was in South Korea with his then girlfriend Valeria, who has since made an honest man of him. He's originally from southern England and she's from Southern Italy (Sicily, actually). They've recently moved to Bristol and were visiting our beach sometime in early December. That's Weston-Super-Mare's Grand Pier behind them.

KEVIN POTTER

Another former colleague, this time from the early to mid 1990s when I was working in radio back in South Africa. He and I were on BRFM in East London together, and he's now moved with his family to the south of England too where they almost have beaches. This is Torquay, in Devon.

SNOW

Believe it or not, the UK Met Office has been predicting that this would be the coldest winter for a generation. So far it's been the warmest. It has to be admitted that they didn't get it completely wrong because we DID have some snow in November. Trouble was, there was nothing in December or January.

As proof, here's a pic of my office building under the sprinkling that we DID get in North Bristol. Not even enough for a snowman...

.SNOW, APPARENTLY
